Segway a `natural' fit with Delphi.(Delphi Automotive Systems)(Brief Article)

When inventor Dean Kamen approached auto supplier executive J.T. Battenberg III in the summer of 2000 and said he wanted to show him something confidential, Battenberg was understandably curious.

Kamen, Battenberg recalls, ``will only spend time on things that will change the world - not trivial pursuits.''

Battenberg, CEO of Delphi Automotive Systems Corp. of Troy, Mich., was not disappointed with what Kamen showed him.

It was a Segway Human Transporter. Kamen - inventor of the first drug-infusion pump and first portable dialysis machine - unveiled the device to the world in December.
