SA: Council to advise on women's health

ADELAIDE, Dec 23 AAP - A council has been set up to provide independent advice on women's
health issues in South Australia.

The Women's Health Ministerial Advisory Council would advise on key and emerging issues
and best practice models in women's health and wellbeing, state Health Minister Lea Stevens
said today.

The council would also provide advice on the impact of health system reform on health
outcomes for women and the degree of gender sensitivity in regional and state-wide health
planning and service delivery.

"Women's health is very important as women are often not only responsible for their
own health but also for the health of their families," Ms Stevens said.

"Women generally report more health problems than men and are more likely to report
illnesses, consult doctors and health professionals and take medication."
