Fed: Iraq war could help counter extremism: Hill
CANBERRA, April 6 AAP - The Iraq war would hopefully not lead to a surge in terrorattacks as Arab countries saw Iraq was better off under a new government, Defence MinisterRobert Hill said today.
The coalition allies in Iraq have been warned the war will lead to hundreds of terroristattacks launched by alienated Arab extremists across the Middle East.
But, Senator Hill said, the war could help counter extremism and suicide bombing attacks.
"In terms of individuals motivated to contribute, particularly those who see themselvesas martyrs, that is going to be an ongoing challenge," he told the Ten Network.
"The best way to answer it is ... to show to the Arab world that the Iraqis are betteroff as a result of this process."
